AAA

Check out our Wonderful Workshops!

No, we are not referring to the ever popular and helpful motor club. Nor are we speaking of the Amateur Astronomers Association (although they will be pleased by the third A). This has nothing to do with the highest level of play in minor league baseball either.

What we are talking about is Acting, Artists, and Astronomy! That’s right, this year Dragon*Con is bringing you three new and exciting workshops!

Acting: We are pleased to offer a unique acting workshop over a two day period by acclaimed actress, director, and author Amber Benson. If you are interested in a career in acting either on the stage or screen or just want to polish up your professional skills, here is your chance to gain insights and learn tips from the successful, talented, and knowledgeable Amber Benson.

Artists: Dragon*Con is pleased to offer a series of workshops over a two day period by acclaimed artist and illustrator, David A. Cherry. Whether your interest is traditional, digital, illustration, or game art, one or more of these workshops will be for you.

Astronomy: We are also proud to offer a two-day workshop focused on astronomy, physics, and other space sciences and how to present these topics to general audiences. The workshop is designed for writers and editors of science fiction, as well as other interested parties. The workshop will be directed by Mike Brotherton, an astronomy professor specializing in quasars, a hard science fiction novelist (Star Dragon, Spider Star), and founder of the Launchpad Astronomy Workshop for Writers.

At long last, picking up your badge will be a breeze! I know this is hard to believe but it is true. For those of you who have pre-registered click here for more info. For those who want to purchase your memberships on site click here.

Which workshop is right for you?

This year Dragon*Con has a wide variety of spectacular workshops designed to offer something for everyone! If you are stressed out Erin Gray can teach you how to relax with tai chi. If a ghost is keeping you up at night and the Ghost Busters are out of your price range, Benjamin Radford can show you how to investigate those pushy phantasms the scientific way. If that manuscript has been sitting on the shelf gathering dust because you are just not sure it is ready to publish then Jody Lynn Nye, A.C. Crispin, Michael Stackpole, or Aaron Alston may be able to help. If you want to learn an alternate form of fitness or perfect your budding belly dancing skills, Phoenicia can help. By the way folks, this one is FREE! Or if you can’t seem to clear your mind enough to decide which workshop is the one for you, then Virginia Hey can help you sort that out with meditation. No matter which workshop you choose you won’t be disappointed.

Check out our workshops to make your choice.

We are excited to announce that John Paladin, a SFX makeup artist with over 10 years of experience has graciously volunteered his services to help us raise money for the Lupus Foundation of Georgia by auctioning off a complete Klingon makeover. Mr. Paladin was JG Hertzler’s personal makeup artist for the acclaimed Internet movie “Star Trek: Of Gods and Men” and will be doing complete Klingon makeup for Robert O’Reily and JG Hertzler here at Dragon*Con…and now you have the opportunity for him to give YOU a complete Klingon look…a kind of Extreme Klingon Makeover! All you have to do is swing by our Charity Events booth in the Marriott (located in the Marquis Registration booth across from the Dragon*Con store) and silently bid on this once in a lifetime opportunity. The winning bidder as of 3pm on Saturday will be on stage in the Hilton Crystal Ballroom with Mr. Paladin while 400 or so fellow Trekkie’s watch you transform from mere mortal to…Klingon! You will be able to show off your look at our Guinness World Record attempt for the largest gathering of Star Trek costumes and wear it proudly for the giant Star Trek party that evening. And the best part? It’s all for charity!

Charity Auction for Lupus

You may be asking, what is Lupus? Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that can cause damage to any part of the body. In some ways, lupus represents a kind of allergic reaction by the body, in which the immune system sees the body’s own healthy tissues and cells as foreign, and attacks them. It is an incredibly unpredictable disease that can range from mild to deadly. There is no cure for lupus and more than 1.5 million Americans have lupus; that’s more than the combined number of those affected by MS, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, sickle cell anemia, leukemia, and HIV. Please help us raise awareness and much needed funds for research! We will sporadically be placing auction items up on eBay throughout the year so keep an eye out for more details. Thank you in advance for all your support!
